About us

The Swedish Center for Optometri has developed and fulfilled competent training programme in optics and optometrics since 2003.

The education

KY optometric technician started as 40-point training program in 2004. It was changed to an 80-point training programme in 2008 in order to fit in with the upcoming trade oriantated university. The optometric technician course differs from studies to become an optician with the emphasis on practical work and focus on handicraft and business. Optometric technicians primarily deal with customers and sales in optician stores, and/or the workshop, as opposed to the optician who is primarily occupied with visual examinations and controls.

Our aim is to increase general knowledge about vision and health of the eye

We do this supporting, encouraging and increases knowledge and awareness of research within the field. With increased knowledge of the multiplicity of vision products and treatment methods that exist today, more people will see better. 

Our different courses primarily focus on groups of professionals within the trade of optics but also other trades or unions. Anyone whose work involves them being in contact with eyes or other related subjects are welcome to attend a course or a lecture at our department.

Collaboration with sceintists in Texas, USA

The Swedish Center for Optometri has an established collaboration with TERCT, Texas Eye Research Center in Houston, Texas. Professor Jan Bergmanson has personally been a great help and support for our center of education. He has generously supplied his extensive knowledge and has provided his worldwide network at our disposal.
